Game Description

In most zombie media, the story is centred around small groups of survivors after 'everything has gone wrong'. But how did things get that way? In Urban Nightmare, the aim is to explore the challenge of managing a growing crisis in a fictional US State. Events in multiple cities, and at the state and the federal levels, are all interlinked.

As such, the game is not just about shooting zombies - players in Urban Nightmare represent police, emergency services, politicians and other leaders - and as such they need to take into account the demographics, economics and political make-up of the state when deciding what is the best thing to do for everyone (and for the good of their careers).

In the emergent gameplay of a megagame the outcome is entirely open to the consequences of player decisions and their interactions.

The Urban Nightmare series of megagames has had quite a few iterations since the first game in 2012, including versions of the game with hidden maps and multiple states. However, this version of the game is "open map" (players see the map directly) and only takes place in one state (with up to five playable cities).

The biggest change with this version is that it is played entirely online! Players use Discord, Google Sheets and Conceptboard to communicate with each other, and to control their resources and units.

Urban Nightmare is designed by Jim Wallman (Stone Paper Scissors), creator of the original 'Watch The Skies' and the first 'Urban Nightmare' game. Jim has agreed to host the game for South West Megagames.
